Patroklos Papapetrou

Patroklos (Pat) has been a software engineer for more than 25 years – he’s passionate about code quality and system perfection and keeping things simple. He’s a book author and occasional speaker, the founder of the Java Meetup in Thessaloniki, and the main organizer of Voxxed Thessaloniki and Devoxx Greece since 2016. 

Principal Software Engineer at Elastic

Iraklis Psaroudakis

Iraklis Psaroudakis is working remotely from Greece as a Principal Software Engineer at Elastic, focusing on the distributed scalability of ElasticsearchPreviously, he was a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Labs in Zürich, Switzerland, concentrating on parallel and distributed programming, and graph based analytical & machine learning workloads, especially in financial crime & compliance applications. Prior to Oracle, he completed his Ph.D. at the DIAS lab of EPFL in Lausanne, focusing on scaling up highly concurrent analytical database workloads on multi-socket multi-core servers through (a) sharing data and work across concurrent queries, and (b) adaptive NUMA-aware data placement and task scheduling. During his Ph.D., he cooperated with the SAP HANA database team. Before his Ph.D., he completed his studies in Electrical & Computer Engineering at NTUA in Athens.

Thomas Pliakas

Thomas Pliakas is a senior passionate Java software engineer, where he likes to work in performance improvements in each phase of the project life cycle. He has primarily been working on architecture, development, and tuning low latency and high throughput telco products. He is also a co-organizer of Java Hellenic User Groups (jhug) meetups.

Software Engineer

Foivos Zakkak

Foivos (Feevos) is a Software Engineer on Red Hat’s Java platform team, where his work focuses on Mandrel, GraalVM, and Quarkus. Before joining Red Hat, he spent 9.5 years as a post-graduate and post-doctoral researcher. At the University of Manchester, he led the development of the Maxine VM, a metacircular Java VM. At FORTH-ICS, he worked on the GreenVM project, resulting in the creation of DiSquawk, a JVM for non-cache-coherent architectures. Additionally, he developed SCOOP, a source-to-source compiler for optimized task-based runtime systems, and made contributions to the TPC, BDDT, and PARTEE task-based runtime systems.
